Be careful, guys!

A very scary and sad event. I'm sure all our hearts go out to Salvador's family, and to his opponent as well, who must be feeling horrible at what happened.

From what has been reported, Salvador's symptoms would be consistent with increased pressure in the brain. The rapidity of his decline in the report would be most consistent with bleeding in the brain, from a ruptured middle meningeal artery, causing an epidural hemorrhage. A blow to the side of the head, enough to fracture the bone and the artery within would be the direct cause of that type of injury.

The injury could have happened either day, but my suspicion would be on the second day, since he felt good enough to eat and drink the night before, and good enough to have another match that morning.

Boxing gloves (to distribute the force over a larger area), or head protection could have helped reduce the risk. MMA gloves by design don't cushion all that much, so would offer less protection.

Damn. That makes you think. Poor Salvador. Some of my matches have ended up with a visit to the hospital or some injury. Do we really know when to say "stop"?

I'm not sure how many of you have seen this, but I saw it posted in a blog on GruntsnGroans.com

It's a story about a guy in here who died this month after arranging a sparring session over two days on here.
