I shall, but first I must commend you for your heritage and dwelling place. It would seem that only hearty souls live there and the weak must sail away.

Please forgive me flippancy. Mendelsohn was one of the greatest composers and in his day he traveled to your land. There is a notable geological formation sculpted undoubtedly by the sea. Less that two years ago I saw a photo of it and could well imagine why it led this man to compose what is popularly known at Fingals Cave. It is a hauntingly beautiful piece of music. I must have been no older than 12 when I heard it for the first time. If you have never heard it, take the time to do so; perhaps you will find it on You Tube.

My second sentence was a bit of a play on word of Fingal and finger. I am afraid it was in poor taste, and I apologize for it if it may have given offense.

Your photo reveals a man ready to do battle and not to be trifled with lest righteous injury be afforded to the fool who gives you unwanted and undeserved provocation.

Many of your people departed the Isle of Lewis over several centuries. It is low lying and will probably be subject to major flooding. May that not happen, but should you come to the States for a visit, there are a few who need a sound shellacking and you could well provide that to them.

I did think it was Fingal’s cave you were referring to. Indeed ancestors did emigrate to the States and Canada because they were driven off the land by landowners, hence the many Scottish place names across the pond.
