matworker's blog

I thought it was time for an update for my many fans (both of them) 🤣
My mobility has improved greatly and I started back at work in April.
Things have gone well and my confidence has grown.
I've had a few light roll arounds on the mats at my home and been able to attend some of the wrestling events.
My mobility is still not great but it is improving and my legs are getting stronger.
I want to thank everyone who has helped me so far, too many to list but you know who you are.
Thanks too for all the kind messages of encouragement, they've meant a lot to me.
I'm hoping that things will continue to improve and I will be able to do even more wrestling in the future.

JOHN1953 is in hospital at the momentl. I have heard that he is in intensive care. I have sent him some messages and I'm sure that those who know him will join me in wishing him a speedy recovery.

He had booked Pippa"s on February 9th. This is still going ahead.
I'm hoping to be there but I don't know if I'll be able to do much wrestling. It will be good to see the others attending and catch up with them.

Here are the main details for Saturday. Please contact me for more information.

Location
The Wrestling Factory (Pippa's) Unit 28 Wellington House Pollard Street East Manchester M40 7FS

Time: 12pm to 6pm.

Because the Events Page is not active at the moment I am putting the details of the Next Grapevine Groups Wrestling Day on my blog.

So here goes. I hope it helps :-)

The 'GRAPEVINE' was the UK'S No1 men’s wrestling newsletter. The first issue was printed in April 1998. The last issue No 42 was printed in July 2008.

As a part of the newsletter it's members were invited to regular Wrestling meets. These events continue and this is an open invitation to join us.

Location: London - The Barnet Workshop Studio 4B, Barnet Business Centre Alston Works Alston Road Barnet Herts EN5 4EL

Website: http://www.meetup.com/UK-Wrestlers/

Date Saturday 2nd August 2014

From 13.00 - 18.00 hrs

Cost £10

Directions If you are using Sat Nav put in EN5 4LG. It will bring you out next to the entrance

The studio is a 15 minute walk from High Barnet Underground Station (on the Barnet Branch of the Northern Line).

Come out of the underground station walk up the hill and turn right at the top into Barnet High Street. Continue up the hill until you see the Church of St John the Baptist. Take the right hand fork (signpost St Albans). Continue forward (past McDonald s on the right hand side). Take a left turn into Salisbury Road (cross over the junction with Stapylton Road) and then right into Alston Road.

Alston works is a fairly spread out old Victorian Industrial site (you'll see an old orange metal gate propped against the wall and a temporary advertising sign high up on a wall advertising a company that designs websites etc. also, signs to a gym which is on the same site).

Whend your way through the site, turn left at the collection of post boxes cross the first yard and then turn right at the row of white office units (ignore no 4), head under the iron staircase and the studio is straight ahead) I am at the back part of the site in a single story unit. It has large solid metal shutters and it's clearly marked Studio 4B.

You might prefer to walk on a little further than Salisbury Road and cut through the Spires Shopping Centre. It has a Waitrose and a Costa. You will come out at the back of the Spires Shopping Centre facing the library in Stapylton Road. Turn right then left into Strafford Road. At the top of Strafford Road turn right into Alston Road. Walk through where the road narrows (7ft width restriction signs) and you'll see the entrance mentioned above.

If you are driving from Central London, once you arrive in Barnet High Street pass Salisbury Rd and the Spires Shopping Centre and bear left at the traffic lights (next to the Kentucky Fried Chicken shop). Drive down St Albans Road a couple of hundred yards, turn left into Alston road and a fairly sharpish right into Falkland Rd. Alston Works is on your left you'll see a sign for (I think it is Mervo or Marvo).

You can park anywhere there is a space as long as you don't block any doorways. Again, the studio is clearly marked.

Please see the website for further details http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Grapevine_Wrestling/

My very 1st blog!!! I don't usually do these but when I found out we could upload pics to our blogs I thought I just had to share pics of this venue we've discovered.

As many of you know, I organise monthly events at 3 locations in rotation.

Due to circumstances I won't go into on here we had to find a new venue. Some of our regular guys had mentioned the Catz Club in Nottingham so I went to check it out. It looked perfect for the events and so I booked it for the first time on Saturday 1st December 2012.

I knew the place had great potential for the kind of events I organise but what I was not expecting was how good the ring is for Pro Wrestling. It's spring loaded so brilliant for those slams and other "bouncy" pro moves.

It does have some limitations - you can't get too high on the ropes or you'll bump your head on the ceiling. It's also at one end of the room with walls on 3 sides of the ring. All that said though it is fantastic to wrestle in.

We were very impressed with this venue. It was very warm too, maybe too warm at times lol.

I have booked 4 more events at the venue so check the event calendar for the dates. http://www.meetfighters.com/events

If you want any more details of this place then please contact me. You can also check out their website - http://www.catzclub.co.uk

I know this sounds like an advert for the venue but I was really impressed with the facilities and wanted to share this find with anyone interested.

So endeth my 1st blog :-)
