I agree: totally over-rated but the homoerotic subtext was interesting.
Fincher is a great director but this was not one of his better films.
The weight of Brad Pitt and Ed Norton kind of kills it. It would have been a better film if it was an Independent film with unknown "real" men instead of fake, pretty boy Hollywood stars.
A Mancunian I met told me the film inspired a few pub regulars he knew to wander up a nearby hillside on an agreed night to duke it out under the stars. Some would go barefisted, others brought gloves.
Occasionally a “guest” would be invited from another pub or locality if the hardest of their mates kept winning.
Not sure if it’s still going. But the guys weren’t the average thug or chav. Some had good jobs and families they went home me to.
I liked it very much found it very homoerotic. Started to try to copy theme of the movie by trying to find a real life fight club right in city that I live in. Unfortunately though didn't have much luck with that idea but would absolutely go to one and fight without hesitation. Never seen the other movie Snatch except for clips on YouTube website but those look awesome as well.
I only saw the film once and don't recall anything homoerotic about it. The guys liked to fight and used it as an escape from the humdrum of everyday life. It's very much like what we do here.

13.6.2022 18:30I've read many reviews of the film. To me it was a study in mental illness and social breakdown.

Another good fight based film is Snatch!

Me too, considering there were already blokes meeting up in private and fighting/grappling years prior.
