Match up in Virginia
I’ve been working on my hug, and I had a couple matches that I figure ill give a recap to.
The first one was a match I had with an old bud in a hotel. He isn’t on mf anymore, but Jim is 6’3 about 315 stocky guy. I’d say more heft than muscle these days, but his past training is still there under his new size. Anywho I’d been planning how I could get him to tap in a hug for a few days and decided is attack his air. So when we started I was heavy on collar ties on his neck, and getting him into front headlocks. not looking for a tap, but really just trying to tire him out. From time to time id try to wrap my arms around his waist but he’d fight me off. After about 20 mins of constant motion he was swamped in sweat and starting to hang on me, so I knew this was my chance. With a guy so big, theres a lot of defense under there. The first hug I tried was when he was on all fours. I attacked from the side putting my chest against the outside of his lats, wrapping my arms just under his chest line, and focusing my grip right between his lats and ribs. This hug wasn’t meant to be kept on long, its meant to cause some pain. Luckily he tapped before I tried to squeeze, and my grip wasn’t the best. I laughed a bit, and let him know he’d just tapped in his first bearhug. We took a break and started on our feet for the next round. I asked if I could test a front hug on him, and he agreed. So I wrapped my arms around the middle of his back, about the only place I could reach around. Dropped my hips a bit, so my arms wouldn’t carry all of the load, and then powered him off the ground. Early I could feel he was resisting pretty well, so I decided to give it all I had. So I focused on my grip, tightened my back which flared my pecs a bit, took as deep a breath as I could, and forced my core into his gut. Realistically I knew I could only hold this for 20-30 secs, but he didn’t know that. So after about 5 seconds of that I could feel him struggling to catch his breath. So as he exhaled, I imagined I was pulling tighter. after 20 seconds, my grip and forearms started to shake , and I noticed he was holding his breath. thats when I went for it all. Brought my shoulders back, and focused more on pushing my core into his gut than squeezing. He tapped almost immediately, so I let him down. Being the southern guy he is, Jim said “damn boy you had me on the line there”. the best part about it was how much he was tenting his short and the wet spot that was growing. Since this was a best of 3 match and id won, I was able to take what was mine :)
