My thoughts exactly. I don't understand why they have to wear Jerseys in amateur Boxing. all other Combat Sports amateur competition they don't have to wear Shirts.

The only outfit for a boxing match is shorts and shirtless. I never fight an opponent with shirt.

same here men need to be shirtless in wrestling and other combat sports. Besides they just become a pain to take off after the sweat starts flowing.

I like seeing shirtless fights, but tank top jerseys are ok, especially if the combatants have muscular or toned arms and having a tough match. I wish amateurs were shirtless like I’ve seen photos and old footage of up until the early 1980’s or so. I don’t like seeing T-shirts, or one competitor shirtless and the other not. There is something more primal about a physical contest between men when it’s shirtless. You can read old newspaper accounts of boxing matches where the writers describe both men as being stripped to the waist to reveal powerful physiques.

Totally agree, nothing better than two men shirtless duking it out. Very primal and manly as both men try to dominate the other.

Thanks! It’s more pure somehow. There is no uniform or team or ball or weapons to hide behind in bare-chested boxing. Just you being tested against another in unarmed battle. I understand gloves and headgear and jerseys, but the more the outfit starts to become like other sports, the less true essence of boxing there is. I wish even in amateurs, the shirts would be off for men, like it was years ago. It just seems natural.

Couldn't agree with you more. Shirts off for men in boxing whether it's pro, amateur or private. When the gloves go on, the shirts should come off. That is just how men box! It is a real shame amateurs wear tank tops.

I prefer to have my top popped off. Gloves come on, shirt comes off- just what I’m used to. Unless the other guy, the coach, or a lead instructor tells me to put it back on, I tend to box shirtless, wherever and whenever possible.

For me, i would rather wear shirt or shirt wihnout sleeves (sorry for my gramar, i forgot how to wrote it). The reason is that everyone react that i should clothe up because im ugly wihnout it. I can make exeptuons but it really depends on situations and how i feel.

Boxing should be shirtless. If you’re going to get into the ring and try to prove you are the superior boxer, the shirt should be off. I’m always proud to be shirtless. That said, different gyms have different requirements. When I boxed two amateur women, I did wear a tank top.

Boxing should always be shirtless in my opinion! I would love to go to a gym that has a shirts off policy. Doubt that exists. But would be great train with a bunch of other bros who love being shirtless as well. Whenever I box privately, the shirt is off, no exception. My buddy who I box with in private is only shirtless some of the time, granted I still love boxing him, but I would much prefer that he was shirtless too! Men box shirtless... Period!

Sweat is a sign of success, because it shows that a guy is excited in the ring. Plus, the body odor can enhance the fight. Keep the punches coming!

Depends on the kind of canvas that is used for the floor. Most boxing gyms I have been to use a cloth canvas, which eliminates the danger of slipping.

I much prefer to train, spar, and fight shirtless. Now, officially sanctioned amateur matches for boxing, across the globe, require jerseys. I'd say about half of all boxing gyms require shirts be worn during training and sparring. In my experience the gyms that are mostly, if not exclusively frequented by men, do not enforce a shirt policy.

boxing shits-off is a must (period) for me to feel comfortable. if you are uncomfortable with it, I can understand and that's 100% okay, but it doesn't mean then that I am comfortable boxing someone with a shirt. different strokes for different folks—not everyone has to box everyone.

There are good reasons for boxers to be shirtless, e.g., freedom of movement, keeping cooler, easier to judge a match, etc. Articles on this topic are easily available on the Internet. Being shirtless is also key to agonophilia–sizing up the opponent, the sweat-drenched male body, sweaty bodies against each other in the clinch, etc. Seeing boxers in shirts doesn't do it for me.

Should it be mandatory for guys to take their shirts off for boxing? Some may be uncomfortable for it. It would not bother me.
